Celebrating the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture
Thousands of people gathered in Washington D.C to celebrate the opening of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture.
Montgomery’s Freedom Rides Museum held a watch party to stream the ceremony online.
The opening of the museum is something people at Montgomery’s Freedom Rides Museum have been waiting for. They say the museum comes at a critical time for the U.S and they hope the museum increases interest in African American history. Tourists will be able to witness thousands of African American artifacts at the museum located in Washington D.C. Velda Montgomery says she hopes the exhibits and momentos capture the attention from people across the country, not only those in the south.
“Our history has been so ignored and so supressed throughout the years, even in textbooks that it’s very important that for people to come and learn,” says Montgomery.
The Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum that highlights African American history.
