Troy’s Clayton Vannoy named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week
TROY, Ala. (troytrojans.com) – The nation’s No. 32 ranked player, Clayton Vannoy, has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Vannoy is off to a remarkable start to the season for Troy as he has played six of his nine rounds under par this year. The senior from Pensacola, Fla., leads the Trojans with a 70.78 stroke average and with a pair of top-10 finishes.
One of those top-10 finishes came last week as he tied for third place at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic with a 7-under 209. Vannoy carded a pair of 2-under 70s around a 3-under 69 at the event; he finished the tournament with a pair of eagles.
Vannoy finished second with a 2-under 214 at the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove in Troy’s second tournament of the year and tied for 11th in the season opening Invitational at The Ocean Course with a 2-under 214.
He currently leads the Sun Belt with his -1.22 score vs. par and is the only player in the league to rank among the top 115 players in the nation.
Troy travels to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Kiawah Classic this Sunday through Tuesday in the Trojans final tournament of the fall.
