Troy softball signs 7 for 2017 class

TROY, Ala. (troytrojans.com) – Troy softball head coach Beth Mullins announced the signing of seven standout high school players to the Trojan softball team on Wednesday. The signing class consists of Kynsley Blasingame, Hope Hernandez, Kelly Horne, Sydney Sessions, Bailey Taylor, Talia Truitt and Annie Willis.

“I am so excited that this day has finally arrived,” Mullins said. “This class has been committed for a while, and we could not be happier to make it official. This is going to be a very strong signing class that we are extremely proud of and excited about. I think they are going to come in next year and make an immediate impact. We can’t wait to get them on campus come August.”

Kynsley Blasingame

Blasingame, a right-handed pitcher, signed with Troy out of New Site, Ala. She is set to begin her senior season at Horseshoe Bend High School.

As a sophomore, Blasingame pitched 212 innings and posted 291 strikeouts with a 1.12 ERA. Her junior season, she pitched 256 innings with 331 strikeouts and a 1.25 ERA. She helped lead the Generals to an area championship her freshman through junior seasons and was regional runner- up her junior season.

Blasingame holds the school record for most career strikeouts (1,200) at Horseshoe Bend. She was named to the 2A all-state team her sophomore and junior years, the all-county team her freshmen through junior years and was named all-county pitcher of the year as a sophomore.

Hope Hernandez

A Tampa, Fla., native, Hernandez signed with Troy as a middle infielder. She is set to begin her senior campaign at Chamberlain High School. In 277 career at-bats, Hernandez has 123 hits and 130 runs scored. Her junior season she posted a .459 batting average.

During her freshman season, she was named Chamberlain High School Rookie of the Year, as well as named to the Tampa all-county second team. As a sophomore, she was named to the all-county first team and helped lead the Chiefs to a regional championship and the Florida High School 6A Final Four. Her junior season, she helped lead Chamberlain to a district championship.

Kelly Horne

Horne, a utility player, enters her senior season at at Aucilla Christian Academy in Monticello, Fla. She helped lead her team to a state championship her freshman through junior seasons, winning the title in 2015 and 2016. Horne was named MVP for the championship game in 2015.

The Tallahassee, Fla., native was named first team all-state in 2014-2016, and was named to the All-Big Bend first team for five consecutive years. Horne was named offensive MVP as a junior and also became the Wendy’s High School Heisman winner as well as the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) 2A Player of the Year.

Sydney Sessions

Sessions will join the Trojans out of Camden, Ala., as a first baseman. She is entering her senior season at Wilcox Academy.

She was named to the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) all-tournament team as a freshman and sophomore. In 2015, she was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s (ASWA) All-State First Team and second team in 2016 after batting .408 as a junior.

Bailey Taylor

Taylor, a middle infielder, enters her senior season at Richard Winn Academy in Winnsboro, S.C. She has helped lead her team to three region championships since 2014.

Individually, she was named South Carolina Independent School Association All-State and All-Star 2014-2016. She was also named region player of the year her freshman through junior seasons.

Taylor is a member of N.C. Lady Lightning Gold travel team.

Talia Truitt

Truitt, an outfielder from Dothan, Ala., begins her senior season at Rehobeth High School. Last season, Truitt posted a .541 batting average with 100 hits, a school record, in 182 at-bats. She also stole 62 bases, a school record and the second most in the state.

Truitt helped lead Rehobeth High School to three regional championships, three area championships and two state appearances in 2014 and 2016. She was also named AHSAA North-South All-Star in 2016.

Annie Willis

Willis, a right-handed pitcher out of Huntsville, Ala., begins her senior season at Westminster Christian Academy already in the record books. Heading into her final season she has pitched 967.2 total innings with 1,432 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.22.

As a sophomore and junior, Willis led the nation in strikeouts with 495 and 583, respectively. She is the Westminster Christian Academy record holder in career home runs (26), doubles (69), and strikeouts (1432).

During her junior season, Willis was named MVP in the AHSAA 4A Area-13 Tournament, MaxPreps Medium Schools Softball All-America Team and the AL.com Super All-State Team. She was also named to the Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team in 2016.

Willis’ sister, Meg, is a current member of the Troy softball team.
