Two People Arrested on Child Abuse Charges in South Alabama
UPDATE: Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden tells Alabama News Network that both Jonathan and Michelle Smith are now facing additional charges. They have each been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of domestic violence- assault first degree.
Two people have been arrested on child abuse charges in Butler County.
Butler County authorities say Jonathan Smith and Michelle Smith have been charged each with aggravated child abuse, abuse of a minor under the age of 12, and sexual torture.
They are being held in the Crenshaw County Detention Facility, each on $1 million bond.
This is not the first arrest for Jonathan Smith this year. He was arrested earlier in March for making a false claim that someone was bringing a gun to Greenville elementary school or the county school board.
