10+ Abused Pitbulls Confiscated Across Pike County

By Sarah Cantey

Close to 30 dogs, many abused pitbulls, are in need of a second chance. Many survived severe neglect, left tied down by barge chains.

Miracle is one of close to 30 dogs in need of a home. The majority were recently rescued from deplorable living conditions in several homes across Pike County.
Rescuers believe some were used as bait dogs, tied down with chains, and left in kennels with molded water.
Right now no charges have been filed, but police are investigating.
Jacqueline Meeks, an animal rescuer said, "We can't hold them forever the shelter just doesn't have room. Animal control is just working really hard with us and doing a great job, going out on calls with us checking the dogs welfare. Helping us pick up, confiscate these animals. We need more funding and we need to get these dogs placed."
The animals you just saw need your help and a new home. You can donate to the Troy Animal Rescue account for vet bills at Troy Animal Clinic.
Or stop by the adoption event outside of the Freckled Frog Boutique on Elba Highway Saturday morning, starting at 9 a.m.
