Autauga County Deputies Need Help Finding Armed Robbers

By Catalina Trivino

CBS 8 is taking action against crime -- Autauga County deputies are looking for two armed robbers who stole money and merchandise at a gas station convenience store. But the good news is -- local businesses may have some needed clues.

The armed robbery happened here at the Chevron gas station off exit 186 on interstate 65. Deputies tell us it's been about a decade since there was any major crime around this area.  And they're hoping you can help find the suspects in this surveillance video.

Take a look at this surveillance video. Autauga County Sheriff's Deputies say they're searching for these two armed robbers. Deputies say two customers and a clerk were inside the Chevron convenience store off Highway 31 around 1 a.m.

That's when they say in minutes, the robbers came in through the front door and stole an unknown amount of money and several boxes of cigarettes. But while the robbery was taking place, a sheriff's deputy drove up to the store.

"One of my deputies was on routine patrol and came by the Chevron station to check on the clerk like he normally does and as he approached the store he noticed an armed robbery is going on. So he backed out, stood there and sealed the store off and called for help," Said Autauga County Sheriff, Joe Sedinger.

He says he thought they sealed the store with the robbers inside, until they found out the robbers escaped out the back door before backup arrived.  Now deputies are hoping surveillance video helps crack the case, including video from one of Chevron's neighbors...

Julie Milton works inside the Exxon gas station. She says her surveillance video shows the robbers running out behind her business dumpster.

"You see the cops and you're wondering what's going on and then you're here... and yeah, it's kind of scary," Said Milton.

"Yeah, right now, we're just going to all of these stores, just trying to pull their video to see if we can see anything related to this robbery," Said Sedinger.

Sedinger describes the robbers as two slender men in their late teens to mid twenties, about 6 feet tall. One of them was holding a pistol, the other a shot gun. And while a $1,000 reward is out for the suspects, Milton hopes they do the right thing...

"Turn yourself in because they will find out," Said Milton.

Deputies say there was a third person waiting in a getaway car. They believe he or she was driving  a gold-colored Mercury Marquis or Crown Victoria, which was last seen traveling south on i-65 towards Montgomery.

No one was hurt during this armed robbery.

Our crew reached out to the gas station owners who chose not to comment.
