Ex-Autauga Commissioner Faces Corruption Charges
A former Autauga County politician turned himself into police Wednesday after being charged in a corruption case.
A grand jury indicted former Autauga County Commission Chairman Danny Chavers last week on three counts of using his position for personal gain, three counts of first-degree property theft and three counts of first-degree property theft by deception.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports that Chavers was released on $25,000 bond. A phone listing for Chavers could not be found.
Chavers was formerly chief of the Autaugaville Volunteer Fire Department and now works as head of the Autaugaville Water Works. Prosecutors accuse him of using his official positions to take money or equipment for personal gain.
