UPDATE-- Jeremy Jerome Owens is behind bars for arson after Troy Police say he intentionally started a fire in his Oakdale Apartment.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Owens put some type of accelerant into the apartment and fled.

He's facing charges by University police for resisting arrest, second degree assault on a police officer after allegedly biting a university cop, and hindering government operations.

A fire breaks out in an apartment complex near Troy University.

Alabama News Network is the only station on the scene as Troy firefighters battling the blaze at Oakdale apartments around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Crews had Park Street blocked near Smith Street.
Troy police say one suspect is in custody, after allegedly fleeing the scene. Police say he resisted arrest but so far no charges have been filed in relation to the fire.
Audrey Todd, lives in the apartment complex said, "I was upstairs cooking and I heard a fire truck and I thought it sounded pretty close and then the firemen beat on our door and told us to get out because the apartments were on fire and when I came out the other apartments were in flames."
Nichelle Green said, "I live underneath this on the second floor so it could have come through the vents through the backside. We smelt something but I thought it was my roommate making toast."
Troy Fire Chief Thomas Outlaw says he believes someone did live in the apartment...and that the fire caused smoke damage to several others.
The chief and the fire marshall are investigating what caused the fire. They say it is too early to call this arson.
