Former JC Penney Location in Selma Mall Remains Empty

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The JC Penney store in Selma shut down about three months ago -- and the store's old location in the Selma Mall remains empty.

Selma Mall officials say they're working to find a new tenant. JC Penney closed its Selma store back in May because they say it was under performing.

Selma shoppers say they'd like to see something done with the space.

"We love talking about stores but I would love to see a movie theater there because Selma is such a small town and all of our money goes to Montgomery, goes to Prattville and the surrounding cities and counties instead of having something here where we can put it in our own city and town," said Selma resident Carla Wall.

City leaders say when the mall finds a tenant they might be open to providing incentives.
