Former Selma High Teacher Jailed on Sex Charges Gets Day Out of Jail

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--    A former Selma High School health teacher behind bars for having sex -- and sexual contact -- with two separate students -- is let out of jail for a "free" day.

District Attorney Michael Jackson says he's outraged that LaTanglia Williams was allowed to get out of jail without a court order -- or HIS office being notified.

Williams is about two months into a 14-month sentence in the Dallas County Jail -- after pleading guilty to having sex -- and sexual contact -- with two separate students -- back in April.

"She was let out all day by the sheriff's department. It's just an outrage! The jail is not a hotel. She shouldn't have keys to the jail like Otis in Mayberry where she just come and go as she pleases. It's not fair to the victims of the crime or the citizens. She's a registered sex offender," said District Attorney Michael Jackson.

Jackson says he may ask a judge to move Williams to another jail -- and that may prevent any preferential treatment.

Sheriff Harris Huffman was not available for comment.
