Across Alabama, Crimson Tide fans are getting ready for the big matchup against Louisiana State University. Not everyone will be in Tuscaloosa for game day, but many fans who can't make it to Bryant Denny Stadium are watching the action at home. That's good news for some local businesses, who are already seeing game day crowds.
For some Alabamians, football and barbecue just go together.
"You know, I think it has to do with the fact that barbecue takes a long time to cook," said football fan Beau Darley.
"I just think it's part of the South. That's what people down here eat," said Joseph Van Zandt.
To take care of that extra business, the kitchen in Dreamland is busier than ever. Managers say some people will watch the game there, but more will take food home for game day parties.
"We get orders all during the week, leading up to the weekend, and then of course, people call up here and are panicking, because either they ran out of propane, or they realize they would rather watch football and cook, so we'll be hopping up here all day. We have people picking up orders on Friday that are going to Tuscaloosa," said Dreamland Montgomery Manager Bob Parker.
And it's not just restaurants seeing the crowds. Calhoun Supermarket Corporate Supervisor Jimmie Coleman says stores are getting ready for a 15 percent uptick in business this weekend, thanks to football.
"It's important to us. We have Alabama State, playing against Southern, Tuskegee playing a home game, but the other thing, the Alabama, LSU game-all of that combined drives a lot of business for us," said Coleman.
There are some repeat items on many shoppers' lists.
"Hot wings, buffalo wings, hot fries, and you know-chips and drinks," said Jeffery McQueen, who was shopping at Calhoun.
Customer Caralotta Carter agreed. "Hot wings and meatballs...it's like chicken. they like meatballs," she said.
Calhoun's Supermarket managers say they have been stocking up on those game day party favorites all week, especially wings. And at Dreamland, managers say they expect to sell 300 ribs just on Saturday.
