A Greenville firefighter finds himself on the other side of the flames as he watches his own house burn to the ground.
Greenville firefighter Chuck Williamson says he took his three boys to school on Tuesday morning and got a call from his own station that his house was up in flames, "I told them they were joking. I didn't believe it. It came out as a neighbor's address that actually called it in, and I was like 'that's not my address. I don't live there,' but then he called me back and it was my house," says Williamson.
Williamson says the electrical fire started in a detached out building beside his house on Cobb Lane in Georgiana, spreading over to his seven year old son's bedroom. The Greenville fire chief says this is the first time he can remember having to respond to a call for one of his own, "Whenever it's one of your own, and you come home and all of your stuff is on the ground, it leaves a real empty feeling."
Even though the fire leaves the family with a total loss, both Williamson and his wife Nicolle say they have a few things to be thankful for.
"I knew when I got home there would be nothing, so I focused on everything that I knew wasn't here, which was my children. And all I could think of is that's what matters most," says Nicolle Williamson.
The Williamson's say they will be staying with family for the time being.
