Icy Conditions Keep Roads Closed In Pike County

By Sarah Cantey

All roads in Pike County including busy US Highway 231 are closed as of Wednesday night.

The roads in the city and county were closed all day, but some motorists were still seen spinning out and trying to get around.
The sun did help melt some of the ice built up on the roads, but that's expected to cause problems as dropping temperatures freeze over the roads.
State resources were plowing and sanding 231, but the freezing over is especially concerning on the highway heavily traveled by 18-wheelers.
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said, "A lot of trucks got stopped and stuck that were the 18 wheelers so we are hoping that what the state has done and DOT is going to get those people on their way."
All Pike County Schools, Troy City Schools, and Pike Liberal Arts will be closed Thursday.
Troy University's Montgomery and Troy campuses will be closed tomorrow, Phenix City and Dothan campuses will open at 1 p.m.
Troy city employees should report to work by noon. Garbage pickup will begin in the afternoon.
