Last Minute Holiday Shoppers Crowd Stores

By Ashley Thompson

Last minute shoppers have just one more day to get what they need before Christmas.

Chelsea Morris says she's actually fighting the crowds to shop for herself.

"Charlotte Russe has the best deals right now, five dollar everything," she says. "So I found a good deal there."

Others were scurrying to find gifts for loved ones.

"Just went and got shirts and some lotion pretty much," says shopper Shantavia Harrison.

Jerry Stangline says he's buying for his four year old daughter.

"She wanted a little car, a little remote control car."

Eastdale Mall Marketing Director Suzanna Wasserman tells us what most people are coming in for.

"I know Kay Jewelers, all the jewelers, they're doing really great," she says. Gold Valley has pandora so we've seen a lot of that. Definitely a lot of Alabama, Auburn items are huge this year."

Some retailers are extending their holiday hours to accommodate for the last minute shoppers. Both Kohls and Toys-R-Us are running marathon hours, staying open around the clock until Christmas Eve. But why are shoppers choosing to wait until now to get what they need?

"Well it's not always last minute but you always feel like you forget that one special gift for somebody so you're back in the store at the last minute trying to find those special little gifts," says shopper Melvin Hines.

For some, last minute shopping is part of the Christmas experience.

"I like the rush of it, being in the crowd," says Shirley Jones. "Just the feeling of Christmas generally and shopping brings that. Last minute shopping, that's the best kind."
