Mosses Residents React to Walter Hill's Indictment as Lowndes Co. EMA Director

By Ashley Thompson

Lowndes County EMA Director Walter Hill has been indicted on allegations of fraud and abuse of power.

In Mosses, everybody knows everybody. It's a very small town and most people know the mayor personally.

Walter Hill's indictment is the talk of the town in Mosses.

Hill is being accused of using his position as the Lowndes County EMA Director for personal gain for himself, a family member, or a business. He's also being accused of forgery for falsely making an ID card. But some Mosses residents tell us they don't believe Hill would do any harm.

"It's just shaky, other people trying to knock him and I feel like that," says resident Edward McCall. "They're trying to get rid of him because he's a good guy, he's a good man. He's a good mayor."

"Like I said, he's doing the most he can to help other people," says Shavon Hill. "Some people ain't got no job and they rob and stealing and they don't have the money to get no ID or nothing."

Mosses Councilman Jerome Hardy says that while he doesn't believe the accusations, he worries they could affect Hill's duties as Mayor.

"It's going to affect him with the trust of the people, you know. His accountability will be weak."

We tried to track Hill down by going to his house in Mosses but no one was home.

While the charges against Hill as EMA Director are unrelated to his position as mayor, some say they hope one job will not affect the other.

"He's an overall good person but I don't know if it's going to affect the citizens," says Meggie Coleman.

"I don't know if it's factual, still don't know," says Hardy. "Just waiting to hear more about it when he goes to court.

Walter Hill's bail was set at $2500 dollars.

Hill also serves as the Mayor of Mosses, so could his indictment affect his mayoral duties?
