Parents Waiting On Douthitt's Decision

Butler County parents are anxiously awaiting Darren Douthitt's announcement as to whether he will accept a new superintendent position with Anniston City Schools.

When the superintendent was asked if he would be accepting a job offer for the superintendent position in Anniston this was his reply, "I can't confirm that right now, but after Tuesday's board meeting I'll be happy to speak further with you on that."

Some Butler County parents, like Crystal Owens, say they are hoping he takes it, "I hope that he can move on, maybe he's a better fit somewhere else. I just don't think he's working out here."

But others say if he is to take the job, they will miss Douthitt as their child's superintendent, "I believe that with Mr. Douthitt's leaving, I believe that it will be a loss to the Butler County School System. He and his family have been very engaged in events and activities here within our city," says Carolyn Sarblah, another Butler County school system parent.

After attempting to get in touch with all five school board members, three answered the phone.

Terry Williams says he has no comment on Douthitt's offer, Billy Jones says he doesn't have any details on Douthitt potentially leaving Butler County, but would hate to see him leave, and Former Board President, Mickey Jones, says Douthitt has not contacted him yet and he says he is a little upset about that.

Douthitt says no matter what his decision, the foundation for Butler County schools is still in place, "And there will be another leader if I were to leave that would come in and and continue to perpetuate the education as it exists."
