Pike Co. Sheriff's Office Hosts Firearms Class For Women
Some Pike County women today were embracing their right to bear arms.
Eight women took part in the free women's firearms familiarization class. Our own Troy Newsroom reporter Sarah Cantey also got in on the action.
It's been put on for about 20 years by the Pike County Sheriff's Office.
Instructors teach firearm fundamentals and safet. And get the women out on the range and let them shoot until they are comfortable.
Jodi Long said, "Very important to be familiar with it. I think that is a huge problem that we have is people want to just go and buy a gun and you are not really doing any good with it if you don't know how to shoot it. And you cant defend yourself. And that's the point of owning a handgun in my opinion."
Sgt, Henry Wentland said, "All shot well and we had a good time. That's the main thing and get comfortable, have a good time and enjoy yourself. And get over your fears and jitters."
