Remains of World War II Airman Identified, Coming Home

The remains of an Alabama airman who had been missing in action since World War II have been identifed.

The Department of Defense says the remains of 21-year-old Staff Seargent Gerald Atkinson of Ramer are being returned to family in Chattahoocheee, Florida, for a burial with full military honors.

Atkinson was one of nine crew members lost during a bombing mission in April of 1945 in Germany.
