Searching For A New Superintendent
Homegrown, creative, and care for students. That is what parents say they are looking to see in the next Butler County Superintendent, and the president of the school board might have some of those same ideas.
With Superintendent Darren Douthitt's seat at the school board needing someone to fill it soon, the community is buzzing with the qualities they hope to see in the next superintendent.
Adam Simmons, a Butler County parent, says he would like to see, "Someone who's lived here, bought a house here, maybe been raised here but has kids in the system, someone that just appreciates the value of the school system whether it be in McKenzie, Georgiana, Greenville."
And School Board President Terry Williams says that's what he's also looking for, maybe even a former student of Butler County, "We're looking for some one who has grown up here in this Butler County area. Now that we are getting some of our students who have gone to graduate school and has more or less accomplished some of the things that the community has asked of them."
Williams says he can't release any names, but says there are a few candidates already in mind, "I can't say that we don't have names that we haven't talked about. There has been two candidates, but they have to go through the same processes as anyone else."
Some parents say they are also hoping for someone who just really cares about the well being of students and can be creative financially for the community.
The board president also says he hopes to see parents at the meeting when they are discussing a superintendent to give their input on what parents want for the county.
The current superintendent, Darren Douthitt, is leaving to take the superintendent job with Anniston City Schools.
An interim superintendent is expected to be chosen at a meeting on January 30th.
