Tough Winter Break For Troy University Students

By Sarah Cantey

It's been a winter break full of tragedy for Troy University students. Four lives are cut short, their ages ranging from freshman to a winter graduate. Heart break is felt all across the campus.

Starting with the day after winter graduation, a student from China gets into a car crash in Florida and later dies. Then a murder near the Troy campus has Troy Football Player Dimitri Miles facing a murder charge. Three days after Christmas and her 21st birthday, Troy University Junior Kimberle Johnson dies in a shooting at a Montgomery bar.
Fast forward three days, 18-year-old Troy Student Kristin Fuller is shot and killed at a New Year's party near Luverne. In that case, 19-year-old Taylor Driggers. Also a Troy student is behind bars, charged with manslaughter.
Bethany Wilson, a junior said,  "I think we sometimes usually do take our life for granted we'll do something and think oh it wont happen to me but I think this will be a message to open the eyes of everyone a little and let them know that you are not promised your next breath."
The most recent tragedy was the death of football player Jadarius Garner--who was found on Mississippi roadway. What led up to his death is still under investigation.
