Troy For Troops Center Open For Service

By Sarah Cantey

May is "Military Appreciation Month". But a new center at Troy University is aiming to help our servicemen and women year round.

Troy for Troops opened it's doors in the Trojan Center a little more than two months ago- after being approved by the board of trustees back in December of 2012.
The center for military affiliated students is a place for counseling, studying and also a place to hang out. The center is also home to a VetSuccess on campus counselor. Troy is one of two alabama universities with the veterans affairs counselor to help with veterans benefits.
Erin Byers, a former army sergeant said, "Coming in here, you just kind of feel that instant bond with other veterans, they've kind of been there, done that. Know what you've pretty much been through. And can definitely relate to anything that you talk about."
The center has already had more than 200 visitors.
