Wreck Near Opp Shuts Down Highway Lanes

By Amanda Wade

A wreck involving an overturned dump truck near Opp blocked lanes on highway 84 for nearly three and a half hours.

Opp's Police Chief says a driver crossing the east bound lanes of U.S. Highway 84 pulled out in front of a dump truck which was carrying a load of gravel.  He says when the truck driver attempted to avoid hitting the vehicle, it overturned tossing the entire load of gravel onto the highway.
The Opp Police Department says the driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Mizell Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released. The truck driver walked away with only minor scrapes.
