YMCA Hosts Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Volunteer Efforts

By Brittany Bivins

People from all over Montgomery are working together to clean up parts of the city in honor of the Martin Luther King, Junior Day of Service.

Today, the Cleveland Avenue YMCA in Montgomery sponsored the tenth annual clean-up day. Dozens of people of all ages showed up Saturday morning, despite the chilly weather, to support the clean up effort, which focused on picking up trash along the voting rights trail.

The work started at the intersection of Holt and Stone Streets and ran all the way to the community garden on Emerson Street.

Event organizers say the day was all about honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Junior.
