Jefferson County sheriff's officials say they're searching for the owner of a pet grooming business who's charged with animal cruelty and operating a business without a license.
Authorities said in a statement Monday that 13 dogs and two cats were removed from the grooming business after authorities were told in May that it was operating as an animal shelter and adoption service.
Sheriff's officials have identified the owner as 45-year-old Scott Alan Kirkland of Birmingham and have obtained arrest warrants for him.
Sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian says the animals weren't being properly cared for and Kirkland wasn't present when authorities arrived.
Authorities say Kirkland will be held on $31,000 bond after being taken into custody. Phone calls to numbers listed for Kirkland were not answered Monday.
