Firefighters Return Home After Battling Wildfires

By Alabama News Network

State officials say eight Alabama firefighters have returned home after helping to battle a large wildfire in the state of Washington.

The Alabama Forestry Commission said its eight wildland firefighters returned to Alabama on Thursday after battling the blaze for 14 days.

The Alabama firefighters were part of a 20-man wildfire suppression hand crew deployed to the Carlton Complex in Washington, one of the largest wildfires in that state's history. They had been sent to Washington on a request from the federal government.

The Alabama firefighters are from Escambia, Geneva, Baldwin, Butler, Russell and Cherokee counties.

Seven other Alabama Forestry Commission firefighters recently returned home after assisting with wildfire assignments in Western states.
