Ala Prison Officer Charged in Drug Case
A longtime worker with the Alabama Department of Corrections is charged with trying to sneak drugs into a state prison.
Authorities say corrections officer David Brooks is charged with conspiring to traffick methamphetamine. He's been with the prison system for 15 years.
Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden says officers arrested the 37-year-old Brooks after he met with an undercover detective.
A search of his home in Troy uncovered more material that was seized as evidence.
Authorities confiscated meth, synthetic marijuana and other drugs worth some $55,000.
State records indicate Brooks was assigned to the Easterling prison at Clio, located in southeast Alabama. Brooks is jailed in Butler County, and court records don't show whether he has hired a lawyer.
