Auburn Fans Have High Expectations for This Season

By Ashley Thompson

Tiger Trek rolled through Montgomery today and the Auburn faithful came out to show their support. After a few low seasons, the Tigers went on to play in the BCS title game in January. So what are fans expecting of the team for this next season?

Back in the spring of 2013, Auburn fans didn't have the highest expectations for the team.

"We didn't know what to expect," says fan Brenda Chambliss. "We had season tickets. We went to every game and were just excited when we left and couldn't wait to go back!"

Fast forward to present day and fans at Tiger Trek in Montgomery are seeing the Tigers with a different perspective.

"This year I have higher expectations," says Randy Golden. "I hate to say that because after playing for the national championship, that you can have higher expectations but certainly I see our defense improving. I see our offense at least as strong, if not even stronger."

"They will beat Alabama this year and we'll be glad to meet them on the battlefield," says Ruth Harris.

Coach Gus Malzahn says he knows about fans' higher expectations but isn't feeling added pressure.

"Personally, I put a lot of pressure on myself anyway so it doesn't feel any different," he says. "It's just a matter of us getting better."

Malzahn says the Tigers will need to get better in order to have the same success as last season

"We're going to be circled on a lot of schedules," he says. "Last year we kind of snuck up on some people so we've got to have our A-game every game."

Though fans say they're confident the team will be on their A-game.

"They're disciplined, organized," says Harris. "I think they have great commitment from the players. I think that they are hard workers."

"Everybody wants to get on the bus and I can't say I blame them," Golden says. "The bus is rolling now and it looks like ain't nobody going to stop it this year."
