Montgomery Food Truck Close To Debut

By Alabama News Network

It's been nearly a year since the city announced plans to bring a food truck to downtown Montgomery.

The plan was to have it up and running by last summer, but we're still waiting.
While we haven't seen that food truck drive through the streets of Montgomery yet, the city says not to worry. The plan is still on.
Food Trucks have been popping up all over the country.
Montgomery held a competition last March to select one of their own, something the city has never seen before.
The owners of Super Suppers won but things took a little longer to come together than expected.
Melanie Golson with the department of development has been working with the owners to keep the project alive.
"We are waiting on Super Suppers. They have been working with their fabricators to get all of the wiring, kitchen equipment and everything. It all has to be super specific to public health department regulations," said Golson.
The original plan would have put the truck where the old State House Inn was located on Madison Avenue, but Golson says the city plans to let them be mobile all around downtown.
Some people in Montgomery are excited to see even more business coming to the area.
"You see the businesses being shut down because they can't afford the establishment, well this is a mobile opportunity to present your food to different people, different locations, variety of different foods," said Kyquan Powell.
"It would be so good for the people of montgomery and it'll give people a reason to come to downtown to buy stuff from the food truck. It'll be great for the citizens of Montgomery," said resident Debbie Tolliver.
Golson said we can also expect announcements for new restaurants coming to downtown Montgomery very soon.
The owners says they expect the operation to be ready to go in a few weeks.
That's when they'll announce the name of the truck and the menu as well.
