New Initiative Designed to Help Curb Crime and Beautify Neighborhoods

By Ellis Eskew

There is a new initiative to help curb crime in the community - -  And it starts by cleaning up your neighborhood.
Neighborhood watch associations are popping up around Montgomery.
BONDS, which stands for Building Our Neighborhoods for Development and Success, met with neighbors last week informing neighbors about crime prevention and hoping it will lead to neighborhood beautification and cleanups.

"The better it looks, the nicer it looks, the more pride people have in it. The more pride they have in it, the more careful they are. It all works together to make our neighborhoods safe, but pretty at the same time," said Donnie Robinson, president of the Greater McGehee Estates Neighborhood Association.

Robinson's neighborhood was chosen by BONDS and the Montgomery Clean City Commission as a pilot neighborhood for the clean up initiative.

"The distribution of flyers are right now. The emails are right now. Folks are beginning to see it and think.  But if you didn't get one, it's ok. If you did get one, it doesn't mean your yard is bad, just means we are distributing to the whole neighborhood."
