Andalusia City Schools Construction Projects
Two Andalusia City Schools are getting a facelift, and construction timelines could be affected by the recent rain and cold.
Superintendent Ted Watson says construction on the elementary and high schools is on a tight timeline with 2013's rainy Summer and the bitter cold snaps this Winter, but he says he is expecting to move sixth graders into the new wing at the elementary school by the Fall. The high school, however, won't be completed in time for seventh and eighth graders to start there in the Fall.
"Elementary...we're going to try to start school there in Fall of 2014 this year and [the high school] building completion date looks like it's going to be pushed so far up to the start of the school year for the next year that we are going to postpone opening it until January of 2015," says Watson.
With sixth through eigth graders moving out of the middle school building, the school system will use it for a new central office and possibly a pre-school program in the future.
