Alabama Republicans Talk Values, Future In Troy

Recent national polls show that an increasing number of Americans support same-sex marriage. But, Alabama is one of 33 states with a ban on gay marriage.

U.S. and state republicans got the chance Saturday to meet with college republicans, sharing conservative views.

It was part of the annual convention for the College Republican Federation of Alabama.

Recently a federal judge in Kentucky said the state must recognize same-sex marriages performed in states where they are legal. There is a lawsuit in Alabama looking to do the same thing, but there’s been no ruling yet.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, (R) Alabama said, “People have to decide those issues themselves there’s not a whole lot the government can do about it. I think the state has the right to recognize the kind of marriage relationship they think is appropriate but people have different views on that.”

U.S. Representative Martha Roby says we have to let it play out in Alabama. And even if district judges make a ruling, higher courts can still overturn the decisions.
