Gov. Bentley Speaks About Pike Co. Industry

By Sarah Cantey

Pike County's industry is made up of businesses from plastic recycling to flight technology. And Thursday night local and state leaders gathered to show their appreciation to industry leaders.

Governor Robert Bentley spoke about the importance of not only recruiting but also retaining business. He said education is key to providing skilled workers for big businesses like Lockheed Martin. The company recently announced they're expanding, adding 100 new jobs to Pike County.
Gov. Robert Bentley said. "Industries that expand, that's a compliment to the workers in this area and a compliment to Alabama. And of course we want to do everything we can to help industries expand."
Pike County's unemployment rate sits at 6 percent, slightly below the state's average.
