UPDATE:Pike County Roads Remain Closed
In our coverage area, Winter Storm 2014 hit Pike County roads extremely hard.
Pike County roads will not reopen until Friday at noon. Anyone who must drive to work is asked to not drive more than 25 miles per hour.
The sun did help melt things enough for Troy roadways to reopen. All state and federal routes were also reopened by Thursday afternoon. But, there's concern all that melting could freeze over and city leaders are urging motorists to stay off the roads as much as possible.
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said, "We ask people to be extremely cautious we don't want people to get over confident...there's still some icy patches in the shady areas and hills of that nature so we just ask people to be extremely cautious."
Pike and Bullock County schools are closed until Monday. Pike Liberal Arts is opening at 10 a.m. Troy City schools and the University will be business as usual.
Alabama Department of Transportation does have an advisory for US 29 in between Troy and Luverne, saying icy conditions are making it impassable.
