Body Found in River Identified As Missing Demopolis Woman

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The body found in the Tombigbee River in Demopolis earlier this week -- has been identified as that of a woman who went missing there about a week earlier.

Marengo County Coroner Stuart Eatmon says the body of 57 year old Maggie Wright was identified by family members.

Wright disappeared after attending a party at the Demopolis Civic Center located on the riverfront. Her body was found by a boater and sent to Montgomery for an autopsy Sunday -- after a week-long search.

"If we had actually waited on DNA it would have been seven to eight months before the family could get closure," said Eatmon. "We knew it was the lady so we decided to just close the case to where the family could properly bury her."

Eatmon says the cause of death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
