Bridge Crossing Jubilee Organizers Make Final Preparations

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee is just days away -- and organizers are finishing up their final preparations for the big event.

The historic Brown Chapel A-M-E Church is preparing to host the delegation for the annual Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage.

Church pastor Rev. Leodis Strong says U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx will be this year's keynote speaker. He says the final plans for building security and crowd control are now in place.

"The Capital Police in charge of security, they've been here," said Strong.  "So, all of those logistical I's have been dotted and the T's have been crossed."

The morning service and rally at Brown Chapel Church are two of the highlights of the Jubilee's Sunday line up of activities.

The Bridge Crossing Jubilee kicks off Thursday.
