Ex-Alabama Deputy Guilty in Drug Trafficking Sting

By Alabama News Network

An ex-sheriff's deputy has pleaded guilty in a drug trafficking sting.

Greg Barge pleaded guilty to attempting to distribute cocaine powder, knowingly using a firearm in the commission of a drug trafficking crime and using extortion during interstate commerce.

Federal prosecutors have said Barge was wearing his uniform and was in his patrol car when he tried transporting what he thought was cocaine from Montgomery to Camden in June of 2013. Camden is about 75 miles southwest of Montgomery.

Barge's plea agreement calls for him to be sentenced to between 72 and 90 months. It's unclear when Barge will be sentenced.
