Golden Dragon Copper Plant Opening Delayed Until March

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  Construction of the $100 million dollar Golden Dragon plant in Wilcox County continues to make progress -- but the opening has been delayed until March.

Wilcox County Industrial Development Authority Director George Alford says the plant was expected to be up and running this month but weather and immigration issues have slowed the process.

He says the company had some trouble bringing in workers from China to oversee the installation of the equipment and training at the plant.
Alford says the delays haven't stopped the company from starting to hire new workers. He says Golden Dragon is expected to employ about 300 people at full capacity.

"Then we hope to do another project another building on the site and get up to 500 and possibly a thousand jobs someday," he said.

Golden Dragon Copper is the largest producer of copper tubing in the world.
