Golden Dragon Copper USA Up and Running in Wilcox Co.

By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  After more than two years of construction the Golden Dragon Copper plant in Wilcox County is up and running.

Governor Robert Bentley and other dignitaries joined GD Copper officials for the grand opening celebration Wednesday morning.

The new plant is bringing hundreds of good-paying jobs to a county known for its high unemployment and high poverty.

"But it's not always going to be the poorest county," said Governor Bentley. "Because we're going to have 300 new jobs, up to 500 new jobs and that's going to make a difference in the lives of people and their families."

GD Copper is the leading producer of copper tubing in the world. The Wilcox County plant is the company's second outside of China.
