Selma Couple Arrested After Allegedly Burning Twins With Iron

By Alabama News Network

Selma Police have arrested two people on child abuse charges.

23-year-old Shanetta Tyus and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Gabriel Fikes are accused of burning Tyus's twin toddlers with an iron.

The twins were taken to Vaughn Regional Medical Center on March 19th with severe burns from head-to-toe. They were burned so badly they had to be airlifted to Birmingham's Children's Hospital Burn Unit

Police conducted an investigation to determine if the burns could have been given to the twins by their 4-year-old sister, but after a report determined that over 40% of the twins bodies had received second-degree burns, police arrested Tyus and Fikes Wednesday.

They are each charged with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse, 1st Degree Assault, and Endangering the Welfare of Child.

They are being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond. They will have a bond hearing Thursday afternoon.
