The Benefits of Quitting Smoking

The American Heart Association says the health benefits of quitting smoking, even for people over 65,  show up much faster than previously thought.

Researchers in Alabama studied more than 850 former smokers.

They found it took an average of 8 years for them to have the same risk of deadly heart attacks and strokes as people who never smoked.

Previous research said it would take 15 years for that to happen.
