U.S. Obesity Problem Getting Worse

New research finds childhood obesity rates are getting worse.

The study in JAMA Pediatrics found 17 percent of U.S. children were obese in 2012.

Researchers say what’s particularly troubling is the jump in children who are extremely obese – that’s having a body mass index at least 120 percent higher than normal.

The findings contradict a recent report that showed a decline in childhood obesity rates.

Researchers say that study only focused on the last decade and didn’t give an accurate look at the big picture.
