Former Alabama and NFL quarterback Kenny Stabler has died at the age of 69 from complications from colon cancer.

He was diagnosed with the disease in February of 2015.

In a statement, Stabler’s family said, “He passed away peacefully surrounded by the people he loved most, including his three daughters and longtime partner, as some of his favorite songs played in the background…”

In lieu of flowers, the Stabler family asks that donations be made to the XOXO Stabler Foundation to support research of colon cancer and sports-related head trauma. More information will be available on Stabler’s Facebook fan page and the XOXO Stabler Foundation
