Birmingham Mayor, Councilman Fight at City Hall

annmapbirmingham.jpgA fight that broke out during a City Council meeting in Birmingham, Alabama, left the mayor and a councilman with minor injuries.

Police Chief A.C. Roper told reporters Mayor William Bell was being evaluated at a hospital following the fight, which occurred outside the council chamber during a meeting Tuesday.

Councilman Marcus Lundy also was taken to a hospital.

It’s not clear who started the fight. Council President Johnathan Austin told a news conference that the mayor assaulted the councilman. But a spokeswoman for the mayor says an arrest warrant will be taken out on Lundy.

The police chief declined comment on details of the fight. He says a report on it isn’t complete.
