Elizabeth Maddox is remembering her 17-year-old grandson Marquez Barr.
Barr was killed in a wreck when the car he was riding in crashed on County Road 7708 Friday.

“At first I couldn’t believe it but then once everybody got to telling me it just broke me down. I couldn’t stop crying and stuff like that,” says Dajavious Maddox

Officers say neither Marquez or the driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Something Marquez’s grandmother says could have changed things.

“I think he would have been here today.”

Marquez leaves behind his grandmother, mother, sister, twin brother and a 2-year-old son, whom his grandmother is comforting as much as possible.

“I just love him harder than what I’ve been doing, says Elizabeth Maddox.

While currently making funeral arrangements, the family says right now, the good things about Marquez bring peace.

“We use to sit around and just talk, freestyle, just laughing all that so it just hurts me that he’s gone. I’m going to miss him.”

A life gone too soon….Family members say this Christmas won’t be the same….without Marquez’s voice or smile to light up the room.
