Fans on the Way to Phoenix
Alabama and Clemson fans are making last minute flights to watch the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Alabama and Clemson football fans are in a rush trying to make it on time to Phoenix to watch the two college powerhouses square off in the College Football National Championship game.
One hundred forty two fans boarded a charter plane for a non-stop flight to Arizona. One hundred thirty eight of those fans were there to cheer on the Crimson Tide, and the other four were on their way to cheer on the Clemson Tigers and see an old friend.
“I grew up in Shelby County, in Pelham Alabama. And Dabo and I were best friends growing up,” says Brian Welch, Alabama native and die-hard Clemson fan.
Welch and his family have known Clemson coach Dabo Swinney for years. As soon as he heard about the matchup between the two schools, he knew he had to get tickets.
“The best national championship game matchup there could have been,” Welch says. “I think Clemson matches up with Alabama better than any other team, so I’m expecting a really good game.”
Even Alabama fans agree Swinney is a great coach. They also think Clemson will be a tough opponent.
“You know, he’s just a great guy, great story. Obviously, I want our team to win,” Alabama fan Jason Kirkland says. “But I wouldn’t be terribly sad if Clemson did win. I can’t believe I’m saying that actually!”
Even the pilot thinks charter flights like these have the best passengers.
“They’re a little bit different because the flights are excited,” says pilot Mike Bialka. “They’re going to a big party, they’re going to have a great time.”
These fans are ready for the plane to touch down and action on the field to begin.
