Plans for this year’s Bridge Crossing Jubilee celebrating the Selma to Montgomery march have been announced.
This year will mark the 51st anniversary of the Bloody Sunday bridge crossing attempt in 1965. Following last years massive event, including the visit of President Barack Obama, organizers say they are hoping for another big turnout this year.
However, it’s coming with some competition. Alabama state senator Hank Sanders expressed frustration today, that the city of Selma is sponsoring their own celebration this year. Sanders and his wife, activist Faya Rose Toure say they are just moving forward with their annual event. They believe it’s important to the future of Selma. The Bridge Crossing Jubilee runs from Thursday, March 3rd, to Sunday, March 6th, which is the commemoration of Bloody Sunday.
