Troy’s Fátima Fernández Cano Named Sun Belt Women’s Golfer of the Month

TROY, Ala (  – After winning her second tournament of the year, Troy’s Fátima Fernández Cano has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Cano picked up the fourth Sun Belt monthly honor of her career after she tied her own school record by shooting a 6-under 210 to claim a share of the individual title at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic last week.

In addition to tying for first in the field of 216 individual golfers, Cano also bested the No. 52 ranked player in the country in William & Mary’s Alessandra Lui by five shots.

Cano finished with 12 birdies over the three rounds, which was tied for the fourth most in the field, while her collective 4-under on par-4 holes was tied for the lowest in the field. She leads the Sun Belt with a 72.00 stroke average on the year over her 11 rounds played and has moved up to No. 103 in the latest national Golfstat Rankings.
