Trojans reveal 2016 football schedule
TROY, Ala. (troytrojans.com) – A pair of nationally televised games and six home contests highlight the 2016 Troy football schedule, which was released Thursday in conjunction with the Sun Belt Conference.
The Trojans will play a Thursday night game on ESPNU twice this upcoming year with a road game at South Alabama (Oct. 20) and in the home finale against Arkansas State (Nov. 17).
“It is nice to have a schedule in our hands,” head coach Neal Brown said. “Opening the season in front of our home fans is extremely important to our program, as is having six home games. Also, the opportunity to showcase our program and the facility enhancements that we have in the works on a national level is priceless, and we will have that exposure twice this year within our league schedule.”
Troy opens the year with three straight non-conference games beginning with Austin Peay (Sept. 3) at home before road games at Clemson (Sept. 10) and Southern Miss (Sept. 17).
Sun Belt Conference play opens with a home game against New Mexico State (Sept. 24). The Trojans hit road for a trip to Idaho (Oct. 1) and then return home following a bye week to host Georgia State (Oct. 15).
The ESPNU contest at South Alabama (Oct. 20) awaits the Trojans next. Following the second off week of the month, Troy begins a stretch of three straight home games. The homestand begins with a non-conference date against UMass (Nov. 5) followed by two Sun Belt games against Appalachian State (Nov. 12) and the ESPNU game against Arkansas State (Nov. 17).
Troy wraps up the season with a pair of league road games at Texas State (Nov. 26) on Thanksgiving weekend and at Georgia Southern (Dec. 3).
Season tickets to enjoy all six of Troy’s home games are now on sale by calling 877-878-WINS or by visiting TroyTrojans.com. The Trojans open spring practice on March 22 and T-Day is set for April 23 at 12:30 p.m.
