Trojans Shine at Troy’s Football Pro Day
TROY, Ala (troytrojans.com) – Fifteen former Troy football players worked out for 14 NFL and CFL scouts Friday at Troy’s annual Pro Day at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Players took the Wonderlic Test and were measured for height and weight before the physical tests, which included the vertical jump, broad jump, 225-pound bench press, 40-yard dash, shuttle run and three-cone drill.
Running back Brandon Burks and defensive end Tyler Roberts both put on impressive performances for the scouts in attendance. Burks, who became just the eighth 1,000-yard rusher in Troy history this past season, posted the fastest 40-yard dash time of the day with a sprint of 4.41 seconds. Additionally, Burks posted 24 reps on the bench press and recorded a 37-inch vertical jump.
Compared to the running backs at the NFL Combine, Burks’ 40-yard time would have been the second-best, while his bench press reps and vertical jump would have been fifth best. His time of 6.68 seconds in the L drill (three cone drill) would have been the fastest among running backs at the NFL Combine by 0.15 seconds.
Roberts, who also ran drills with the running backs, ran a 4.63 in the 40-yard dash, put up 18 reps on the bench press, posted a 36.5 vertical jump and turned in a 6.88 time on the shuttle run. Compared to defensive linemen at the NFL Combine, his marks in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and shuttle drill all would have ranked second best.
Former running back Phillip Crochen and defensive tackle Billy Dobbs posted the most bench press reps with 29 and 26, respectively. Carnell Simon and Lonnie Gosha also reached the 20-rep mark with 22 and 21, respectively.
Burks wasn’t the only former Trojan to run well on Friday as Bryan Holmes (4.47), LaMarcus Farmer (4.5), and Teddy Ruben (4.58) also turned in impressive 40-yard dash times. Burks and Roberts posted the top two vertical jumps of the day followed by Ruben (36), Jarvis Bentley (35) and Farmer (34.5).
