Troy women 14th after Day 1 of 3M Augusta Invitational
AUGUSTA, Ga (troytrojans.com) – The Troy women’s golf team is in 14th place following Friday’s opening round of the 3M Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The Trojans are just eights shots off a top-five finish in a field that includes 11 teams ranked in the top 100.
Fátima Fernández Cano, who is ranked 34th in the latest World Golf Amateur Rankings, shot a 3-under 75 to lead the Trojans in the opening round. She is tied for 24th place after a round that included four birdies.
Freshman Bianca Lohbauer and junior Gabi Oubre’ are right on her heels after carding matching 4-over 76s in Friday’s opening round. The pair are tied for 34th place after carding three and two birdies, respectively. Lindsey Harrison was on her way to a solid day before posting a 5-over on No. 3 to finish her day with a 7-over 79 and tied for 67th place.
Playing as an individual, Kalyn Hudson carded a 6-over 78 with three birdies in her round and is tied for 56th place, while Becca Horner fired an 8-over 80 and is tied for 73rd place. Also playing as an individual, Bria Jansen shot an 86 and is tied for 87th place.
No. 33 Furman and East Tennessee State are tied for first place at 2-over, while No. 35 East Carolina is in third place at 7-over; Troy finished the day 18-over par. Furman’s Alice Chen and Augusta’s Jessica Haigwood are tied for the individual lead at 3-under.
Due to the threat of inclement weather, teams will play 36 holes on Saturday to close out the event.
